Laurel & Hardy came to Morecambe on just the one occasion, in 1947, and appeared at the Winter Gardens. They stayed at the Elms Hotel, in Bare, on the outskirts of Morecambe, to escape overzealous fans. On the Tuesday of their visit, Oliver Hardy accompanied Stan Laurel on a visit to look around the house he was born in, in Ulverston.
